Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 489)

It is a temporary visa for those applicants whose skills, experience, and abilities are well in demand in Australia's regional territories or specific states. This visa allows you to live and work in Regional territories of Australia for up to 4 years. However, you must choose an occupation from the relevant occupation list and need to get the sponsorship from that particular state or territory in Australia, which you have chosen to apply.

Note: Australian government has closed regional Skilled Migration Scheme Visa Subclass 489for new applications. A new visa, i.e. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 491, has replaced this visa with effect from November 16, 2019. 

To become eligible to apply for this visa an applicant must-

• Have an experienced in any of the occupation listed in the combined list of Eligible Skilled Occupations of Australia!
• Score at least 65 points based on his/her age, Qualification, Experience, English proficiency, other components if applicable (Click here to calculate your points)
• Get a state/territory sponsorship.
• Be under 50 years of age.
• Obtain a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority
• Have a required level of English Proficiency from IELTS.
• Experience as required by state/territory requirement
• Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).
• Apply State sponsorship application.
• Meet health and character requirements.
• Live in sponsoring state or territory for two years once the visa allocated.

(Note: Subclass 489 visa closed and replaced by a new visa category, i.e. Subclass 491 visa from November 16, 2019. Hence, the EOI applications for the subclass 489 visa will close on September 10 2019.)
