Australia Work Visa Requirements

In 2013, the Australian government introduced the SkillSelect program as a replacement for Australian skilled worker visas. SkillSelect is specifically created to assess applicants' skills using a point-based system, ensuring that individuals with the appropriate skills are chosen for immigration. The Australia work visa requirements includes the following:

  • Age: Individuals aged between 25 and 32 earn the highest points, while those above 45 do not receive any points.
  • English Language Proficiency: Applicants are required to take the IELTS test, and scoring 8 bands or higher results in a 20-point gain.
  • Skilled Employment: Points are given based on years of experience in a job listed in the Skilled Occupations List. The maximum points in this category are 20.
  • Educational Qualification: To earn points in this category, your qualification must be relevant to your nominated occupation. Doctorate degrees can secure 20 points, while bachelor's or master's degrees yield 15 points.
  • Australian Qualifications: If you hold an Australian qualification from an Australian educational institution, you can obtain an additional 5 points.
  • Regional Study: You can get 5 more points if you have lived and studied in regional Australia.
  • Community Language Skills: Gaining translator/interpreter level skills in one of Australia's community languages can earn you 5 points.
  • Spouse/Partner Skills and Qualifications: If your spouse/partner is not Australian, their skills can add to your total points when applying. You gain an additional 5 points if your spouse/partner meets the basic requirements of Australian General Skilled Migration.
  • Professional Year: Completing a Professional Year in Australia for at least 12 months within the last four years from institutions like ACS, CPA, CAANZ, IPA, or Engineers Australia can earn you an extra 5 points. You must score at least 65 points to qualify for the General Skilled Migrant Program visa.

Australia Skills Assessment

A crucial component of the Australian work visa application process is the skills assessment. To begin, individuals must select an occupation from Australia's Occupational Demand List, which identifies professions experiencing skill shortages in the country. Each occupation on the list is associated with its own assessing authority. Occupations in the field of IT and Computers are assessed by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), while trade occupations fall under the purview of either Trade Recognition Australia (TRA) or the Vocational Educational and Training Assessment Services (VETASSESS).

A positive skill assessment is a fundamental requirement for advancing in the Australian work visa application process. To attain this assessment, candidates must fulfil the specific conditions stipulated by the assessing authority responsible for their occupation. This entails having the requisite qualifications and relevant experience.

A primary requirement for securing a positive skill assessment is that your selected occupation aligns with your work experience. A disparity in this regard can result in the loss of essential points. Additionally, the assessing authority expects candidates to provide all additional information and documentation as requested.

Australia Work Visa Cost

The Australia work visa cost change from time to time. To start with, the visa fees are contingent upon the date when we receive your application.
