Skilled Occupation List Canada 2024

What is the Canada NOC list?

The NOC or National Occupational Classification list is Skilled Occupation List Canada prepared by Canadian government. It classifies all occupations in the maple leaf country, which exists in the labour market of Canada. It gives individual job seekers, statisticians, labour market analysts, career counsellors, employers, etc. a way of defining and understanding the nature of work.

Canada switched to new NOC 2021 system from old NOC 2016

The ESDC (Employment and Social Development Canada) and Statistics Canada introduced a new TEER based NOC System 2021 Version 1, and accordingly a new Canada Occupation List, wherein NOC stands for National Occupational Classification.  From November 16, 2022, Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) and other key immigration programs of Canada changed to the new NOC 2021 Version-1 from old NOC 2016 System.

Note: The NOC list given below is based on the official NOC 2021 list followed by IRCC. The occupations in the list may change/update as per the announcement/change/update from ESDC/IRCC. To confirm the latest status of an occupation you may call Visas Avenue immigration expert on Toll-Free-Number- 78-18-000-777 or e-mail at info@visasavenue.com.

Other Important FAQs

What is the use of NOC system?

The Canadian government to categorise the jobs of people working in Canada uses the NOC system. IT classifies the jobs based on the type of Job duties and Work a person does

What is the difference between an occupation and a unit group?

An occupation a set of jobs that are adequately similar in work performed. A job relates to all the tasks carried out by a particular worker to complete his or her duties. A unit group, as defined in the NOC, can represent a given occupation (such as dentist — NOC code 3113) or a set of different occupations falling in the same broad occupational category and skill level and with comparable duties and employment necessities.

How can I find jobs related to my NOC code?

The website of Job Bank provides a lot of data to help job hunters find a job linked to their occupation as identified in the NOC. Job seekers can particularly:

  • Look through thousands of job postings using the Job Bank website or mobile application and;
  • Get job alerts as new jobs matching their interests are posted.

What is NOC classification criteria?

The two key characteristics used as classification benchmarks in developing the NOC are the broad occupational category and the skill level. Other factors, i.e. occupational mobility and the industrial sector, are also taken into consideration.

  • Broad occupational category: It signifies the type of work performed, the field of study, or the industry of employment whenever industry-specific work experience is needed for entry into occupation. The first digit of a NOC code denotes the broad occupational category.
  • Skill level: It signifies a broad aggregation of education, training, and work experience and also considers the intricacy of the tasks and responsibilities linked to the job. The 2nd digit of a NOC code denotes the skill level.
