Alberta government of Canada has announced two new immigration pathways under its Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) to encourage foreign graduates to open businesses in the province of Alberta. It will create new high-paying jobs for Albertans and help expand the economy of the maple leaf country in long term.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is one of the most popular Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) of Canada that invites the candidates with relatively low Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score (i.e. as low as just 300 Points) via its periodic AINP draws or invitation rounds.
Two new Immigration Pathways under AINP
Alberta is launching two new PNP streams, i.e.
With effect from October 26, 2020, fresh or recent international graduates from the universities and colleges of Alberta, interested in launching business projects and start-ups in the province, can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) under the new International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream of Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP).
The Alberta province will also launch the Foreign Graduate Start-up Visa Stream from January 2021 to lure the talented foreign graduates from leading U.S. universities and colleges to start businesses and settle in Alberta communities.
International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream
The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream (IGEIS) lets the province of Alberta to nominate qualified international graduates from Alberta post-secondary educational institutions, (looking to setup or operate a business in Alberta) to apply for PR visa.

Area | Requirement |
Work Experience | Applicant need to have at least 6 months of full-time work experience that can be a combination of actively managing or owning the business or equivalencies. For example, experience with a business incubator or business accelerator, or completion of entrepreneurship program courses.* |
Education | Must have completed minimum 2 years of full-time education in Alberta, resulting in a degree or diploma from a designated post-secondary institution in Alberta. Completion of program of study must result in for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. |
Work Permit | Have a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) valid for at least 2 years at the time of your Expression of Interest (EOI) submission. |
Language | Have at least CLB level of 7 for each in one of the following: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Official test results must be less than 2 years old at the time your EOI is submitted. |
Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) General Test | |

Business Establishment | Must setup a new business or buy an existing business in Alberta with a minimum 34% ownership. The proposed business type must not be on the list of ineligible businesses. |
AINP- Express Entry stream
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) - Express entry stream is also quite popular among the skilled worker applicants. It select and nominate the Express Entry candidates for Canadian PR visa even with a low CRS score (i.e. as low as just 300 points).
The nomination received through AINP- Express entry streams help the applicants to get extra 600 CRS points in their express entry account.
