What are the key requirements?
Tourism and hospitality sector of Alberta
Alberta’s tourism and hospitality sector is a vital driver of economic development and jobs throughout the province, particularly in rural areas and communities outside large urban centres, while showcasing the distinctive experiences and welcoming hospitality that lures visitors from around the world.
In 2022, Alberta witnessed a surge in tourism spending, reaching $10.7 billion, marking a $600 million increase compared to 2019 figures. This upward trajectory signals a robust recovery from the pandemic-induced downturn, positioning the province to surpass previous visitor expenditure records.
To boost Alberta's expanding visitor economy, a novel immigration pathway is being introduced, known as the Tourism and Hospitality Stream under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program. This measure aims to address labour shortages and facilitate the recruitment and retention of skilled professionals within the province's tourism and hospitality sector, thereby fostering sustained economic growth.
