Alberta signs a MOU to promote Alberta-India education & attract more newcomers from India

Canadian province Alberta has signed a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute to build up ties between post-secondary institutions in India and province of Alberta, Canada. In view of it’s fast growing economy, Alberta is emphasizing on more job creation and expansion. New global ties always help lure increased number of skilled newcomers and families to the province.

Alberta Signs MOU with Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute

The Shastri-Indo-Canadian Institute offers new prospects for students in Canada and India. The Memorandum of Understanding will allow for post-secondary institutions (PSIs) in India and Alberta to cooperate with one another and share information and acquaintances more effortlessly via new research partnerships, professional growth opportunities, and engagement with students and faculty.

The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute is a bi-national entity authorized by the governments of India and Canada to encourage, facilitate, and develop academic ties, collaborations and exchanges, research partnerships, and networks on bi-national passages. Government of India’s Ministry of Education funds it and support disciplines across all post-secondary education.

Speaking about this tie-up, Rajan Sawhney, Alberta’s Minister of Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism said, “This MOU is a key step towards creating a productive relationship between Alberta and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. Our government is laser focused on strategic immigration that will assist in addressing Alberta’s skilled labour shortages, and this agreement is paramount in attracting highly skilled newcomers to our province. Partnerships like this can also help garner strong cultural relationships, and foster important multicultural connections.”   

Key objectives inline

The MOU will enlarge academic and research prospects between Alberta and India. Moreover, it plans several primacies for PSIs in both dominions to emphasize on, i.e.

  • Improving Alberta’s international student recruitment policies to lure more newcomers from India
  • encouraging Alberta-India education cooperation and collaboration
  • Supporting missions and visits between PSIs in Alberta and India.
  • Engaging industry in Alberta and India to support the Alberta Government’s international education and employment objectives.

The terms of the agreement of this Memorandum of Understating are valid for 2 years, with the prospects to extend for an extra two years.

The federal and provincial governments of Canada every year invite a significant number of immigrants and international students from overseas under various visa programs. In 2023, Canada has a target to invite record 465,000 new permanent residents under various immigration categories.
