In a significant move to attract skilled workers, the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has issued a whopping 15,000 invitations to apply for the Subclass 189 visa in its latest SkillSelect invitation round.
This latest round, held on November 7, 2024, marks the second invitation round of the 2024-25 program year. The DHA has been observed to be holding invitation rounds with a delay of 1-2 months, followed by issuing a large number of invitations to compensate for the delay.

Invitation rounds will be conducted periodically during the program year for:
- Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)
- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) – Family Sponsored.
The number of invitations issued in each draw can fluctuate based on the available pool of applications. State or territory government nominations for skilled visas will remain unaffected by these departmental invitation rounds.
Process of Invitations
Invitations to apply for a visa are issued to Expression of Interest (EOI) submissions with the highest points score. In the event of a tie, the EOI with the earlier submission date will be prioritized.
