As a part of stage two of border reopening, the Australian Government plans to welcome more skilled foreign workers and international students. Since Australia faces significant labour shortages across different sectors and industries, the Government hopes that stage two of border reopening will help the nation reboot its migration program.
On Friday, Australia’s Finance Minister, Hon. Simon Birmingham said, “if the first phase goes well, the government can move towards stage two, where international students and skilled workers will be able to come into Australia.”
The Government is significantly investing in Australia’s skills agenda and is hopeful that economic strength will be serve as the key driving force to meet skill shortages.
In the past, despite the border closures, the nation accepted 160,000 migrants under permanent visa subclasses and also granted visas to plenty of temporary visa holders and other candidates.
Out of the total permanent migrants invited, over 22,000 were from India and China.
