Australia's 2024–25 permanent Migration Program- DHA is inviting Public Submissions

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Australia is inviting public submissions to contribute to the planning of Australia's Migration Program for 2024–25. Australia's Permanent Migration Program (Migration Program) is designed to accomplish a balance among various economic, social, and demographic aims, with a focus on the country's long-term national interests.

For existing, i.e. 2023–2024 Permanent Migration Program, Australia has set a target to welcome 190,000 permanent residents. Generally, the Migration Program follows a 70/30 split between the Skill and Family streams since the early 2000s, except for 2020–21 and 2021–22 due to global pandemic scenario.

The Australian Government, in planning the annual Migration Program, aims to elevate long-term national interests. The DHA is actively seeking input from all Australians through a consultation process to shape the 2024–25 Migration Program, making certain real-world impacts are considered for evidence-based solutions.

The Migration Program covers three streams: Skilled, Family, and Special Eligibility, with Partner and Child visa categories operating on demand and minimal planning levels.

Attachment A gives detailed information on these streams. The government fixes the available places across these streams in the annual Budget process, considering factors from the discussion paper, public input, and existing visa applications.

The government cooperates with a national Population Plan with regional authorities to address future population changes, housing, infrastructure, and service requirements.
