Australia Targets Critical Skills with New Core Skills Occupation List

The Australian Government has taken a significant step towards streamlining its skilled migration program with the introduction of the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) on December 3, 2024. This new consolidated list replaces the complex and outdated occupation lists that previously governed temporary skilled visas.

• Core Skills Stream of the Skills in Demand Visa: This new visa will replace the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa and will be primarily based on the CSOL. It offers a pathway to temporary work in Australia for skilled workers in occupations listed on the CSOL.
• Direct Entry Stream of the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186): This permanent visa category will also use the CSOL to identify eligible occupations for employer-sponsored migration.
