The month of January, not only mark the start of a new year, but also the beginning of Tamil Heritage Month in Canada. Ahmed Hussen- the minister of housing, diversity, and inclusion has issued a statement on this occasion, acknowledging the contribution of Tamil community in Canada.
As per his statement, this is the time when the maple leaf country reflect on the rich history, culture, resiliency, and strength of Tamil communities across the nation. Canada is popular as the country of migrants. It every year admit more than 400,000 newcomers in the country on Permanent Resident (PR) Visa.

Canada is the honoured home of one of the biggest Tamil Diasporas in the world, and Canadians of Tamil heritage have been active in making it the nation it is today. Whether it’s in the domain of business, politics, the arts, or other fields, Tamil communities continue to play a dynamic and motivating role in Canadian society.

Over the progression of this month, members of the Tamil community will gather to celebrate the several great contributions that they have made to Canadian society and system as a whole. In fact, it continue to make, and it works as an opportunity for everybody to recognize and honour their fabulous accomplishments.
In his official statement on this occasion, Minister Hussen says, “On behalf of the Government of Canada, I invite Canadians from coast to coast to coast to join in on the celebrations and to learn more about the Tamil language and culture throughout the month of January and beyond. Happy Tamil Heritage Month”
Tamils are a Dravidian ethno-linguistic group and it’s ancestry mainly finds its roots in India’s Southern state of Tamil Nadu, union territory of Puducherry and to Sri Lanka. Tamils make nearly 5.9% of the population in India (i.e. mainly in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry region). In fact, in Canada, there are many communities, which originally belong to India, i.e. Sikh community. The history of immigration to Canada from India goes back to almost a century.
