Canada has always been a warm, hospitable and welcoming nation for new immigrants. Canadian government has a plan to invite more than 1 million permanent residents by 2023. Out of the total number, the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to invite record 431,645 new immigrants in 2022 only.
Now, looking at the ongoing admissions and immigration status, Canada is likely to achieve, in fact, surpass the immigration target set for this year.
The immigration minister of Canada, Sean Fraser in a meeting with a task force on August 29, 2022 confirmed that Canada has accepted over 300,000 new Permanent Residents this year until August 2022, reaching the milestone earlier than in any previous year in Canadian history of immigration. This means the IRCC (Immigration Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) is well on the road to achieve its immigration target of 431,645 for the year 2022.
While recovering from the pandemic caused in 2021, Canada welcomed record 405,330 new immigrants. However, looking at this year’s immigration statistics, one can say that IRCC will easily surpass the last year’s figure.
As per IRCC’s immigration data available until June 2022, about 231,620 new immigrants arrived in Canada by the end of June 2022. Now Considering Minister Fraser’s statement, between June to August Canada has welcomed about 68,000 permanent residents (i.e. in two months).
In the open data portal, the IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has listed the data showing the top source countries for immigration to Canada, as well as the provinces and territories welcoming most number of newcomers. Let’s take a look at this year’s immigration data, until June 2022 (i.e. first six months).
India is leading the list of top source countries (68,280 permanent residents from India), which have sent 29 percent of total new immigrants to Canada this year until June 2022. In fact, India is consistently topping this list of top source countries since last five years.
