Canada Opens Express Entry Draw for Trades Occupations- Issues 1,800 ITAs with a drop in CRS score

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has opened first category-based draw for Trade occupations (Version 1) this year on 4th July 2024. In this draw, IRCC has invited 1,800 Trade Occupation candidates to apply for permanent residence. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score dropped significantly in the first category-based draw for Trades Occupation category this year.

Lower CRS Requirement for Skilled Trades

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for this draw was 436, significantly lower compared to the typical CRS cut-off for general EE draws. This trend reflects the government's ongoing effort to attract skilled trades people to address labour shortages in key sectors.

With category-based draws for healthcare, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and other in-demand occupations expected throughout the year, the chances of receiving an invitation to apply (ITA) remain high for qualified candidates.

A Positive Outlook for Aspiring Immigrants

This development is positive news for aspiring immigrants with skills that fall under the category-based selection criteria. Additionally, French language proficiency can significantly boost an applicant's CRS score and improve their chances of receiving an ITA.

For those with CRS scores that might not have been competitive in previous general draws, category-based selections offer a valuable pathway to Canadian permanent residency. We encourage all interested individuals to stay updated on upcoming draws and explore their eligibility under the various categories.
