Canadian Armed forces are now hiring permanent residents

Making a major change to its hiring policy, Canada’s Armed Forces (CAF) have announced to hire the permanent residents in Canada. The CAF first announced it through an Instagram post shared on 4 November 2022.

In the post, the CAF mentioned that they are now hiring both Canadian citizens and permanent residents and interested applicants can now apply visiting the official website.

CAF Boosting recruitments

Earlier, the Permanent residents were only entitled to apply under Skilled Military Foreign Applicant (SMFA) entry program, which was "open for people that would lessen training costs or fill a special requirement, i.e. a trained pilot or a doctor," as per Royal United Services Institute of Nova Scotia- a not-for-profit association of retired and serving members of the CAF.

The CAF also signalled this change in September 2022, when it raised concerned about severe shortage of recruits to fill thousands of vacant positions, fulfilling about half the number of applicants it needs per month to meet the goal of adding 5,900 members this year.

Although, the armed forces not officially confirmed that they are hiring the permanent resident to enhance the recruitment, however, the recent actions are indicating the same.
