Canadian Immigration Minister invites ideas to shape up "An Immigration System for Canada's Future"

The long-term success of Canada- the maple leaf country is critically linked to immigration. Canada need a strong immigration system that is easy to navigate and adaptive to change in order harness the potential of immigration and create the best experience for newcomers. As a first step to achieve this, through a press release on February 23, 2023, IRCC has announced the commencement of a new engagement initiative, i.e. “An Immigration System for Canada’s Future”.

An Immigration System for Canada's Future

Canadian immigration minister, Sean Fraser has announced a broad-based engagement initiative, "An Immigration System for Canada's Future," which seeks to discover how immigration policies and programs can support a shared vision for the country's future. While announcing this engagement initiative the minister said,

“Immigration is critical to Canada’s long-term success, and we need to ensure our policies and programs are aligned with the needs of our communities. That’s why the Government of Canada is launching this large-scale engagement initiative, which will provide an opportunity for a wide range of stakeholders and Canadians to share their ideas and perspectives on how we can build a stronger, more adaptive immigration system for Canada’s future.”

The engagement to continue throughout the spring and will comprise in-person dialogue sessions across the nation, thematic workshops, and a public survey. This all-inclusive approach aims to capture a variety of perspectives from a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including all levels of government, businesses, academia, settlement organizations, and implicated sectors in Canada. Here are key focal areas of this initiative:

  • The ideas and perspectives collected via this initiative will form Canada's future immigration policies and programs, which ultimately benefit the communities across the country for upcoming decades.
  • The next generation of Canada's immigration system will involve continued, whole-of-society collaboration.
  • The engagement initiative anticipates capturing a diversity of perspectives, making certain that everyone has a say in shaping the country's future.

The first dialogue session, chaired by Sean Fraser, occurred in Halifax, Canada where participants exchanged ideas and discussed how Canada's immigration policies and programs can better support the requirements of communities from coast to coast.

The imminent survey, which will be available to the public later in March, gives an additional prospect for people to contribute to the future of Canada's immigration system.
