Express Entry Application Processing time is back to within 6 Months

A good news for the Canada PR (Permanent Residence) applicants! The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has confirmed that the processing time of most Express Entry applications is back to within six months once again.

The processing time was six months only before the global pandemic; however, due to a pandemic caused situation the IRCC was taking a little longer to process the applications.

However, it is now back to within 6 months once again. This processing time is also updated now on the IRCC official website.

Express Entry Processing times

The IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) process most Express Entry applications within 6 months or less, once it has received complete application and set of documents from the applicant. The applicants may require providing biometrics with their application, hence, the processing time includes the time an applicant require to give the biometrics.

Key reasons for processing delays

Your application can be delayed in case:

  • IRCC require to verify information
  • there are criminal or security problems
  • The IRCC require doing more background checks
  • your family situation isn't clear, for example:
    • a divorce or an adoption that isn't yet complete
    • child custody issues that haven't been resolved
  • you require providing more documents or have an interview with IRCC

Keep your details up to date

You can avoid delay in application processing by updating your information. Use the IRCC web form in case you require reporting crucial changes about your application, i.e.

  • changes of mailing or email address, telephone number or other contact information
  • births or deaths in your family
  • marriages
  • divorces
  • adoptions
  • changes to your job or job offer
  • new educational credentials
  • updated language test results

New processing time tool

On March 31, 2022, the IRCC updated the processing times tool in order to more precisely show as to how long it is going to take to process your application.

Earlier it used to show IRCC service standards, i.e. the IRCC’s commitment to processing your application under usual situations, which does not used to be updated regularly.

Now, most PR and citizenship services show-processing times, which are updated every week, as per the data from the previous six months. It provide more accurate and up-to-date information that shows

  • volumes of applications being processed and
  • any changes to our ability to process applications

High time to apply for Canada PR among Positives from immigration department

Recently, the IRCC has confirmed that it will restart the Express Entry FSW (Federal Skilled Worker) and CEC (Canadian Experience Class) category draws from early July. Now processing time is also back to normal. Among these positives, it the perfect time to prepare your application and apply for Canadian PR (Permanent Resident) Visa.
