Express Entry Yearly Report- Record-Breaking ITAs Issued in 2023

Canada welcomed a significant increase in immigration applications last year. According to the IRCC’s annual Express Entry report, the number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued in 2023 more than doubled compared to 2022. Between January and December 2023, IRCC extended 110,266 ITAs through 42 Express Entry draws. This represents a substantial 136% growth over the previous year’s total of 46,539.

Who Received ITAs?

The majority of ITAs, around 40,052, were directed towards candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). This was followed by the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) with 26,445 ITAs, and the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) with 17,898.

A notable shift in 2023 was the introduction of category-based selection draws. These targeted specific occupations or language abilities, leading to 25,870 ITAs issued under this category.

Tech and Skilled Workers in High Demand

The report highlights a strong preference for candidates in computer, tech, and finance occupations. However, a significant portion of ITAs, around 48%, was awarded to those in other fields.

Software engineers and designers remained the most sought-after professions, followed by software developers and programmers. A majority of in-demand occupations required a university degree.

India Remains Top Source Country

While Canada was the primary residence for most ITA recipients, India continued to hold the second spot. Cameroon surprisingly climbed to the third position, surpassing Nigeria by a narrow margin.

It's important to note that these figures represent country of residence, not citizenship. India emerged as the leading source country for Express Entry ITA recipients by citizenship.

Educational and Language Proficiency Requirements

Post-secondary education was a common factor among successful applicants, with master’s degrees and advanced credentials being particularly advantageous.

Strong language proficiency in English or French is crucial for a high Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The majority of candidates demonstrated CLB levels between 7 and 9.

A Promising Outlook for Immigration

The surge in ITAs issued in 2023 signifies Canada’s commitment to economic immigration. While the data provides valuable insights into the trends and preferences, individual circumstances may vary.
