Germany is making constant efforts and taking measures to attract the skilled workers from India, with a present focus on nurses. As per Economic Times, German Labour Minister Hubertus Heil met with trained nurses in Thiruvananthapuram on his trip to India for upcoming G-20 summit. The minister met with nurses as part of the Germany’s international recruitment initiative to draw more skilled professionals to Germany.
The German Federal Employment Agency (GFEA) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GSIC) have been actively recruiting nursing staff from Indian state, Kerala since 2022, in view of the shortage of labour in the healthcare sector.
Speaking about his trip and Germany’s drive to invite skilled workers from India, Minister Heil said, “In the long term, we could achieve cross-national comparability and recognition of qualifications. At the same time, I use the trip to India to find out more about the potential for skilled workers and to promote Germany as an attractive location with good working and living conditions,”.
Germany has eased visa regulations
To meet this goal, the German government has eased visa regulations and streamlined the process for identifying overseas qualifications, simplifying the entry and incorporation of skilled professionals. These measures are making Germany an increasingly attractive choice for Indian nurses seeking employment opportunities.
Moreover, Germany's plan to ease work visa rules for Indian IT professionals, which comprise modernizing the visa-issuing process and relaxing other rules, demonstrate the country's proactive approach to meet the demand for software development expertise. A new rule, planned to be implemented on March 1, 2024, aims to ease the entry of skilled workers from third countries, encouraging streamlined and simplified rules for those seeking job in Germany.
The successful outcomes of Germany's efforts are visible in terms of substantial rise in work visas issued to Indian nationals. Last year, the country granted more than 14,000 work visas to Indian professionals, indicating a positive response to Germany's appeal for skilled professionals from India.
