India tops the list of Leading Source Countries of new immigrants to Canada in 2022

As per the recent data published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), India continues to be a leading source of newcomers to Canada as per the annual report on Canada immigration- 2022. As per this annual immigration report-2022, Canada accepted 437,120 new permanent residents in 2022, exceeding the target for the year (i.e. 431,645) by almost 5,000. Most of the immigrants who landed in Canada on a PR visa in 2022 were the citizens of India, followed by China and Afghanistan.

• India - 118, 095 immigrants
• China - 31,815 immigrants
• Afghanistan - 23,735 immigrants
• Nigeria - 22,085 immigrants
• Philippines - 22,070 immigrants
• France - 14,145 immigrants
• Pakistan - 11,585 immigrants
• Iran - 11,105 immigrants
• United States of America - 10,400 immigrants
• Syria - 8,500 immigrants

Canada is popular as immigrant-friendly country that every year invite over 400,000 new permanent residents under different immigration programs. The maple leaf country also plans to admit record 465,000 new permanent residents this year, i.e. in 2023.

Top immigration destinations in Canada in 2022

In 2022, Ontario has been the top immigrant destination for newcomers as permanent residents, followed by Quebec as the second most popular destination among immigrants. Nearly 42.2% of all new comers moved to Ontario, while around 15.7% new immigrants moved to Quebec and 14% moved to British Columbia.
