IRCC Implements New Immigration Fees for several application types w.e.f. December 1

Effective December 1, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has increased fees for several application types aimed at generating additional revenue for the department

Effective December 1, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has increased fees for several application types. These changes will impact a wide range of immigration processes, including those for temporary residents, permanent residents, and students. The fee hikes are aimed at generating additional revenue for the department, which will be used to fund various immigration programs and services.

Here's a breakdown of the new fees compared to the previous ones:

If you submitted a complete online immigration application before the fee increase on December 1, 2024, you won't need to pay the new, higher fees. IRCC processes online applications promptly, so your application would have been fully paid before the fee change took effect.

However, if you mailed in a paper application (such as a Post-Graduation Work Permit extension), there's a possibility that you paid the old fee before IRCC received your application.

What if you've already paid the old fee?

  • Online Applications: If you submitted a complete online application before December 1, 2024, you'll be unaffected by the fee increase.
  • Paper Applications: If you mailed a paper application (like a PGWP extension) before the fee change, IRCC won't reject your application if you paid the old fee in full and submitted a complete application. You'll be instructed to pay the difference.

How to pay the fee difference:

  1. Calculate the difference: Subtract the old fee from the new fee.
  2. Pay online: Use IRCC's online payment tool to make an additional payment.
  3. Submit the receipt: Follow IRCC's instructions to submit your payment receipt.
