IRCC Targets PNP Candidates in First Express Entry Draw of July 2024

On July 2nd, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held a targeted draw of Federal Express Entry system. This draw focused exclusively on candidates who already had a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination.

This marked the first PNP-specific draw of July and the third one conducted in 2024. Find out more details about this latest EE invitation round.

Express Entry Draw – 2 July

The draw saw 920 invitations to apply (ITAs) issued to PNP nominees. These candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739. It's crucial to note that a Provincial Nominee Program nomination significantly increases an applicant's CRS score, making them more competitive in the Express Entry pool. Here are the main highlights of this latest EE draw:

  • The number of ITAs issued and the CRS cut-off score.
  • The benefit of having a PNP nomination for CRS score.

EE Draw Analysis

With this latest draw, IRCC has now invited 44,374 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence (PR) through Express Entry in 21 draws held in 2024.

Draw Focuses on Provincial Nominee Candidates

This latest Express Entry draw highlights Canada's ongoing effort to attract skilled immigrants who can address specific labour market demands across different provinces. While the Express Entry system itself manages applications for federal programs like Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, and Canadian Experience Class, it also allows provinces and territories to nominate candidates through their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

Cut-Off Score likely to drop in Upcoming Draws

It's key to note that the high cut-off score for this draw is due to its focus on PNP candidates, who typically have a CRS boost from their nominations. The cut-off score for upcoming regular Express Entry draws, which include candidates from all categories, is likely to be lower. Moreover, with the advent of category-based express entry draws, now candidates are getting ITA even with low CRS score provided they fall under on of the six categories selected for the category-based Express Entry draws.
