Australian State, South Australia (SA) has announced key changes to its two Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMAs) for Skilled & Business Migration program. As Immigration SA, following an annual review, the Australian Government has agreed to some key changes to DAMAs. Skills Assessing Authority
The SA Government continues to act as a skills assessing authority for occupations that presently have no other skills assessing authority. This will let formerly unqualified occupations to be available for skilled migration. The Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) of South Australia is a formal agreement between the Australian Government, represented by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Australia and the South Australian Government, Department for Innovation and Skills.
The SA Government has entered into two DAMAs:
Significance of DAMA
Both these DAMAs allow employers in the state of South Australia to sponsor skilled foreign workers for positions they are not able to fill with local workers in the state. Employers facing skills and labour shortages can apply for endorsement to enter into a DAMA labour agreement. This allows them to sponsor skilled and semi-skilled foreign workers with more flexible requirements compare to already existing standard skilled visa programs.
Skilled & Business Migration accepts the role of Designated Area Representative (DAR), which is responsible for recommending employers looking for to access foreign workers through the Designated Area Migration Agreements.
The Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) is an all-encompassing 5-year deed of agreement between the Commonwealth and the Designated Area Representative (DAR), which is the Department for Innovation and Skills, Skilled & Business Migration.
