  • Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)

The Canberra Matrix program serves as a strategic initiative by the ACT government to attract and secure skilled professionals to the region. This program prioritizes occupations that are in high demand within the local labor market, ensuring that the region's workforce aligns with its economic needs.

Canberra Matrix Invitation Round- Key Details

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government conducted its Canberra Matrix invitation round on March 20, 2025. This round operated within the ACT's system of allocating a fixed number of nomination places each month, derived from its annual allocation.

Invitations were extended to the highest-ranked Matrix submissions within each occupation. The cut-off score for selection varied based on several factors:

  • Remaining monthly allocation of nomination places.
  • The date and time of the Matrix submission.
  • Occupation-specific caps.
  • The overall demand for each occupation.

Essentially, occupations with higher demand required correspondingly higher Matrix scores to receive an invitation.

It is crucial to understand that the minimum ranking score published serves as an indicator only and does not guarantee an invitation. Furthermore, individuals with active applications within the system or those who have previously received ACT nomination are ineligible for invitations. Finally, Canberra Matrix submissions in occupations deemed to be within critical sectors may receive prioritization.

2024-2025 Allocation of ACT Nomination Places:

  • Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa: 1000 places
  • Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visa: 800 places
