New Brunswick has announced a new Immigration Pilot for Skilled Workers

New Brunswick has announced a new immigration stream, i.e. New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot (NBCWP) to lure skilled workers into occupations that are highly in demand in the province.

This pilot is a joint venture of the provincial and federal government of Canada. Find out more about his brand-new pilot.

New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot (NBCWP)

The new pilot offers more flexibility by allowing participating employers to provide skills and language training along with the guidance and support to the new immigrants they bring into the New Brunswick.

New Brunswick has a positive record of accomplishments with immigration-related pilot programs; hence, participating employers will get significant advantage from filling critical vacancies and candidates will find important work in a welcoming community.

Speaking about this new pilot, minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser said, “Immigration is not only good for our communities, it is essential. Newcomers play a key role in Atlantic Canadian communities, and in helping businesses succeed,” said federal Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Sean Fraser.

He further added, “New Brunswick’s Critical Worker Pilot is an innovative approach that will help employers across New Brunswick meet their specific labour market needs.”

Employers to participate in new pilot

The NB has identified six employers to participate in the pilot, i.e.

  1. Cooke Aquaculture,
  2. Groupe Savoie Inc.,
  3. Groupe Westco,
  4. Imperial Manufacturing,
  5. D. Irving Ltd., and
  6. McCain Foods.

Key requirements for the participating employers

Participating employers need to fulfil several requirements. They need to:

  • have strong settlement plans for housing and transportation to best support the successful establishment of candidates into their new jobs and communities, with strong commitments to long-term retention;
  • have inclusive human resources planning in place for recruiting and hiring skilled international talent, and for on-the-job skills improvement;
  • provide up to 200 hours of language training, as needed, to recruited applicants; and
  • Provide with the guidance and support to applicants who may want to pursue their Canadian secondary education equivalency.

Both provincial and federal government will monitor the 5-year pilot program periodically to make certain that it remains responsive to immigration requirements and delivers the desired outcomes for the province.
