New South Wales Migration Update- NSW will focus on Priority Sectors instead of Skilled Occupation Lists

In order to more efficiently address the changing skill shortages throughout Australian state of New South Wales, approach of the NSW migration is shifting from the previous practice of publishing a list of eligible ANZSCO unit groups to a new strategy that focuses on specific sectors.

In the past, NSW provided a list of in-demand skills by specifying ANZSCO unit groups. However, as of now, the state is focusing on the priority sectors that require skilled professionals.

NSW Nomination process

The selection-based invitation process is implemented by NSW to make certain that the nominees from the region align with the skill requirements of the state's economy. It's crucial to note that direct applications for NSW nomination are not accepted.

NSW Target Sectors for program year 2023-2024

The sectors NSW migration has recognised align closely with the skills shortages in NSW and include:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Infrastructure
  • Agriculture

While the state of New South Wales is placing a primary emphasis on specific sectors for the current program year, it is worth making a note that EOIs (Expressions of Interest) with high rankings in non-priority sectors may still be taken into consideration.

Nonetheless, given the extraordinary demand and the limited number of available spots, the state strongly advises individuals anticipating NSW nomination to thoroughly explore all other migration avenues that may be open to them.

  • Evaluation: NSW takes consider various criteria when assessing EOIs. These criteria encompass your points total, proficiency in the English language, and your professional work experience. EOIs submitted in the NSW Priority Sectors mentioned earlier will be given preference.

  • EOI Submission Date: The timing of your SkillSelect EOI submission or modifications has no bearing on your probability of receiving an invitation.

Promoting Regional Growth

The promotion of regional development continues to be a key focus in this program year. State’s regional skilled migration initiative is crafted to benefit regional businesses in luring skilled professionals. Details concerning the relaunch of this program will be shared once NSW have completed the processing of all applications from the prior fiscal year.
