In an effort to address the healthcare workforce shortage in Nova Scotia, the province has begun a targeted approach to attract qualified healthcare professionals through its Healthcare Professionals Immigration Pilot program. Unlike the Labour Market Priorities draw, this measure precisely targets healthcare practitioners, offering them a pathway to practice in Nova Scotia's medical landscape.
Candidates received Letter of Interest
On March 8, 2024, selected candidates received a Letter of Interest in their Express Entry profiles. These people are now being encouraged to participate in the physician draw of the Healthcare Professionals Immigration Pilot, specifically aimed at Nova Scotia's Practice Ready Assessment Program (PRAP).
What is Nova Scotia Practice Ready Assessment Program (NSPRAP)?
The Nova Scotia Practice Ready Assessment Program (NSPRAP) is designed to evaluate foreign-trained family physicians' clinical skills and knowledge to ascertain their readiness to practice family medicine in Nova Scotia. This assessment program aims to ensure that these physicians possess the necessary capabilities to deliver high-quality patient care.
Candidates urged to express their interest
The candidates who have received this letter are urged to express their interest in becoming licensed physicians in Nova Scotia by completing a survey provided by the provincial authorities. Should they successfully complete this process and secure a conditional job offer from a healthcare employer in Nova Scotia, they may then apply to one of the Physician streams under the Nova Scotia Nominee Program or opt for the Atlantic Immigration Program.
It's crucial to note that only applicants who received a Letter of Interest on March 8, 2024, are eligible to participate in this particular draw of the Healthcare Professionals Immigration Pilot. Those who didn't get an invitation are encouraged to explore other immigration pathways available in Nova Scotia.
While candidates participating in this pilot program may not get the usual 600 points in their Express Entry profiles, their profiles will still remain active in the federal EE pool. This move highlights Nova Scotia's commitment to boosting its healthcare sector by providing opportunities for qualified professionals to contribute to the province's healthcare system.
