Second Express Entry draw of the year held on 8th January- Invites CEC candidates

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) kicked off 2025 with a series of Express Entry draws. On January 7th, they conducted a draw for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, issuing 471 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for Permanent Residency (PR) visas. The very next day, on January 8th, another draw was held specifically for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates, with 1,350 ITAs issued. This rapid succession of draws demonstrates Canada's active efforts to welcome skilled immigrants through the Express Entry system.

The IRCC started the year with a CEC only Express Entry draw inviting 1,350 candidates who had the CRS Score of 542 or higher.

The IRCC has now issued total 1,821 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) this year in two program-specific draws occurred on 7th and 8th January respectively.

In 2024, Canada's commitment to diversity and prosperity was evident through the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Express Entry program. A total of 98,903 invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued to skilled workers across 52 draws, reflecting the nation's proactive approach to economic growth.

Hope for Low CRS Score Candidates: Category-Based Draws

The introduction of category-based draws within the Express Entry system offers a glimmer of hope for candidates with lower Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores. These draws provide targeted pathways to Permanent Residency (PR) to candidates who are proficient in French language or have experience in key in demand occupations. This targeted approach allows candidates with strong profiles within these categories to secure invitations, even if their overall CRS score may not be high enough to compete in general draws.
