South Australia & New South Wales have opened their Skilled Migration Nomination program 2023-2024

The key Australian states, i.e. South Australia (SA) and New South Wales (NSW) have opened their Skilled Migration Nomination program for the program year 2023-2024.

South Australia Skilled Migration Nomination program 2023-2024

Australian state of SA has introduced its 2023-24 Skilled Occupation List and has transitioned to a Registration of Interest (ROI) system to efficiently cope with the high demand from potential applicants residing and working in the state, given the limited number of nomination spots available.

As a result, probable applicants are needed to submit an ROI and await an invitation from SA to apply for state nomination. However, the direct application for state nomination is not possible.

Within this invitation-based approach, South Australia will give preference to retaining foreign graduates and temporary visa holders who are already in the state.

Overseas Skilled Workers

The skilled foreign workers, predominantly those with expertise in high-demand sectors in South Australia, i.e. Trades and Construction, Defence, Health, Education, Natural and Physical Sciences, as well as Social and Welfare Professions, will be specifically targeted for invitations to apply for South Australian nomination.

New South Wales (NSW) Skilled Migration Nomination program 2023-2024

The 2023-2024 Skilled Migration State Nomination Program is now open to entitled applicants living in New South Wales and overseas, featuring new changes compared to the past financial year. These changes comprise a revised approach to addressing skills shortages throughout the state.

Instead of focusing solely on skilled occupation lists, the NSW will now prioritize specific sectors that are deemed as priorities. While Expressions of Interest (EOIs) submitted for occupations outside these priority sectors may still be considered, the primary importance will be given to those priority sectors that require skilled professionals.

 The NSW target sectors are:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Infrastructure
  • Agriculture
