The South West region of Western Australia (WA) likely to fill grave labour shortages for business and industry as the federal Government is creating a DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreement) with the Shire of Dardanup.
It will the 8th region in Australia to enter a 5 year agreement with the Commonwealth focused on ensuring that the skilled migrants contribute via employment in main roles where Australian workers are not available. Find out more details.
Announcing the DAMA for WA, Alex Hawke- the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs said,
“This new migration agreement will help to expedite growth in Dardanup and South West Western Australia.” With over 74,000 vacancies in regional Australia, regional migration has huge benefits for both the local community and migrants.”
He further added, “Regional towns will be able to fill gaps in their labour market and migrants can find secure employment in some of the most beautiful parts of Australia,”
The Australian Designated Area Migration Agreement also known as the “DAMA” or “DAMA visa,” is proposed to assist employers operating in a particular area through sponsoring skilled and semi-skilled foreign workers for positions they are unable to fill with local Australian workers.
It is a labour agreement for a designated area that can offer access to a bigger amount of occupations and may have lesser requirements.
The DAMA allows employers to be approved to sponsor migrant workers through the TSS 482 and the 186 visa streams. Skilled and semi-skilled workers with experience in the occupations, which are not on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), likely to access skilled Australian migration through the DAMA program.
The federal and state government expects that the new DAMA will assist a range of key industries in the South West fill critical employment gaps.

The DAMA is likely to allow employers in the land down under to bring in the foreign skilled workers under the labour agreement streams of the Temporary Skill Shortage and Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visas that may offer a pathway to PR (permanent residency), helping the South West region long-term in both business and community.
The Shire of Dardanup will oversee the process for accessing the South West DAMA that will be open to businesses functioning in any of the 12 local government’s areas covered by the agreement.
